How the Prizes Are Awarded
The prizes in poker tournaments are awarded in either one of the two
possible ways:
• Proportional – the percentage rate is the determinant factor of the prize.
The number of participants usually increases the percentage rate. Generally,
those with the highest amounts of chips are awarded after the games.
• Fixed – in some poker tournaments, the prize will depend on the
corresponding payoff rate. There is a set amount of cash for the winners of
the game.
Types of Poker Tournaments
The tournament may either be invitational or optional. Today, the World
Series of Poker is considered the most prestigious of all poker tournaments
in the world. It is also an open type of tournament which means that the
games are open to all players.
Invitational tournaments – as the name implies – only allow invited players
to play. The host of the event is usually a casino owner or an individual
who wishes to have a poker party at a certain venue.
Tournament Venues
Tournaments are held from time to time. Informal tournaments include those
which are organized by a group of friends. Online gaming sites, as well as
casino establishments, offer daily tournaments.
The poker tournaments may take place anywhere in the world. There are big
poker occasions which require a spacious venue. There are also those which
can be played in bars or even in homes. Some tournaments may also be held at
sea. There are also those which are held in convention centers such as the
World Series of Poker which took place in Rio Hotel in Las Vegas.
